Week 1 - Pre-Assessment Challenge |
|
Week 2 - Intro |
Students share and critique compositions from previous class. What looks interesting? Why? Does you work tell a story? What approaches did students take to developing a composition? How the compositions be done differently using the same source material? Could different techniques be used?
Distribute Unit Cover Sheet. (Students can also download and print from this link) Review AOI, Unit Question & Concept. Unit question: How can ideas be remixed, reworked and reinterpreted? Brainstorm this in small groups and record your answers in your developmental workbooks. Please title and date your work. Be prepared to share your answers.
In groups, students create definitions for key terms (10mins).
View Romare Bearden "Back Home" 1970, by following the Thinking Routine below:
What do you think the image is about? Use the See Think Wonder routine below. Document your answers in your Developmental Workbooks.
In 5 minutes, gather some interesting facts about Romare Bearden in your Developmental Workbooks. Be prepared to share your findings with the class.
In this unit, you will be creating a cut paper/collage piece. In the past, students recreated their line drawing. You do not have to do this. In previous years, some students also chose a theme to depict. In the next few weeks, we will explore some collage techniques.
Task: Portrait Mash If you look carefully at this Romare Bearden example, you will notice the faces were created from different pieces. Your task for the remaining lesson, is to create a portrait "remix." Create a face using various sections from other images. Further add decorative elements if you wish.
